Summer. New baby. Not sleeping a lot. But, hey! Reading tons of books, running, getting healthy & losing weight. So, for the most part, everything's good good.
More on the Stanley Hanks Memorial Poetry Prize: Got a package in the mail the other day, including the chapbook The St. Louis Poetry Center produces for its award-winning poems, a check, and these nice comments from judge Tony Hoagland about my poem, "In Case You Were Wondering":
I like very much the way this poem cleaves close to the shore of a believable moment, and to naming realistic feeling between two persons, as opposed to inflated romantic sentiment. The poem holds the real and the affirmative in the same hand, and tips the balance with affectionate realism.Wow. I'm thrilled, to say the least.
Also, some more news about my still-forthcoming chapbook, The Everyday Parade/Alone With Turntable, Old Records, from Crisis Chronicles Press. Many people have been asking me about it because we've missed a couple of publication dates. What has happened is that the publisher has had some personal matters come up that have very understandably prevented him from getting the work done on the release to this point. The book is still coming, folks, and I'm still thrilled to get it into your hands--hopefully sometime later this month.
In the meantime, stay tuned for news about some of my other projects. Right now, I've got several going on. As always, I'm working on the museum of americana. Besides that, I've just about wrapped up work on a chapbook manuscript called "Lessons in Ruin," which'll be going out to face judgment soon, and I'm also still working slowly toward finishing a small fantasy/folk/fairy tale series. I plan to work with an artist on illustrations before I send that one out. Oh, and speaking of collaboration, I've been trying my hand at song lyrics just for kicks, some folky poetical-type stuff, and there's a small collaboration involving a pretty talented friend in this area as well. Plus I'm exploring the possibility of co-writing with another musician. More on these as we see what comes of them.
And that's about it. I've got some publications forthcoming soon, and I'll update on those when I'm sure they're out there and can be found.
Honestly, thanks for stopping by and seeing what's going on. And most of all, happy summer!
